Why a new logbook?

If you have been diving for more than a few years, your dive data is probably scattered. The first hundred dives are in a paper logbook. The next batch lives in Suunto DM5 on a laptop you may or may not still own. Your Shearwater dives are on a different computer. And somewhere along the way you tried a cloud-based app that wanted you to create an account, add friends, and treat your dive logs like social media posts.

None of these give you what a logbook should be: a single, searchable record of every dive you have ever done, accessible on the device you actually carry to the dive site.

What Slate records

Slate covers everything a thorough diver logs: depth, bottom time, gas mix, water temperature, visibility, safety stop, surface interval, buddy, gear configuration, GPS coordinates, star rating, and notes. Air, nitrox, and trimix – full mix details for every dive.

Wireless dive computer import is the headline feature. Slate downloads dives directly from your dive computer over Bluetooth Low Energy – Shearwater, Suunto, Mares, Oceanic, and more. No cable. No laptop. No vendor app. Incremental sync means only new dives transfer, and depth profile data is preserved from each download.

For divers who own multiple computers across different brands, this means one logbook for all of them. Shearwater and Suunto side by side. No more switching between vendor apps.

UDDF file import is also supported for any computer that exports the format.

Your data, your device

Slate stores everything locally on your device. No account to create, no server storing your dives, no cloud dependency. Open the app and start logging. Your dive data never leaves your phone unless you export it yourself.

CSV and UDDF export are always free – no paywall, no restrictions, no limits. If you ever leave Slate, your logbook leaves with you. Data freedom is not a feature tier. It is a design principle.

iCloud sync keeps your logbook safe across devices, but Slate never depends on an internet connection. Full offline functionality means the app works at any dive site, on any liveaboard, in any country.

On-device analysis

Slate’s career dashboard tracks total dives, accumulated bottom time, deepest dive, personal bests, and annual goals. A dive frequency heatmap visualizes your diving activity over time. Depth and temperature trend charts show how your diving evolves.

On-device analysis surfaces patterns across your dive history – without sending your data anywhere. The analysis runs entirely on your phone. Available on iPhone 15 Pro and later.
