Who we are

This site is operated by Tools for Divers, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company. Tools for Divers builds a suite of scuba-diving apps (such as Dalton, Slate, and Prism) and publishes a newsletter. This page describes what data we collect, why, and the rights you have over it.

Our postal address is:

Tools for Divers, LLC
131 Continental Dr, Suite 305
Newark, DE 19713
United States

For anything related to your personal data, you can email us at contact@toolsfordivers.com.

What we collect and why

We collect only the information needed to provide the service you asked for. We do not sell your data, we do not build behavioral profiles, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

Newsletter

The newsletter is strictly opt-in with double confirmation: after you submit your email address, we send a confirmation message, and you are only added to the list once you click the confirmation link. We collect:

  • Email address — required to send you the newsletter, and stored on our own infrastructure (not a third-party marketing platform).
  • Name (optional) — only if you choose to provide it, to personalize the greeting.
  • Delivery metrics — we record whether a message was delivered, bounced, or marked as spam, via webhooks from our email sub-processor (Resend), so we can keep the list healthy.

Every newsletter email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. We never sell, share, or rent your email address to anyone. When you unsubscribe, we remove your address from the sending list.

Legal basis (GDPR): your explicit consent, given when you confirm your subscription.

Analytics

We measure traffic with first-party, cookieless analytics that we run ourselves. There are no third-party analytics services, no advertising pixels, and no cross-site tracking.

  • We never store your raw IP address or User-Agent string. To count unique visitors without identifying you, we derive a one-way hash from a rotating daily salt combined with request details; the salt is discarded at the end of each day, so visits cannot be linked across days or back to you.
  • We record coarse, non-identifying signals such as the page path, referring site, and response status, used only to understand which content is useful.

Because we use only strictly functional cookies (described below) and no analytics or advertising cookies, we do not show a cookie-consent banner.

Legal basis (GDPR): our legitimate interest in understanding aggregate, anonymized usage of the site.

What we do NOT do

To be explicit about what we never do:

  • No third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, Plausible, Fathom, or similar).
  • No social or advertising pixels (no Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • No retargeting and no personalized advertising.
  • No selling, sharing, or trading of your data with anyone.

Third-party sub-processors

These are the only external services that process any data on our behalf:

Service Purpose Data it receives
Resend Sending newsletter emails Your email address and name (for the "To" field)

Cookies

This site uses only strictly functional cookies:

  • CSRF token — protects form submissions against request forgery. Technical and necessary.

We use no analytics, advertising, or third-party cookies. Because we only use strictly functional cookies, no consent banner is required.

Data retention

  • Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe. When you unsubscribe, we remove your email from the sending list.
  • Delivery metrics (delivered, bounced, complained) — kept only as long as needed to maintain list health.
  • Analytics events — stored in anonymized, non-identifying form; they cannot be traced back to an individual.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you have these rights over your data. You do not need to cite a specific law — just email us:

  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to fix anything that is inaccurate.
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your data; we will do so unless we have a legal obligation to retain it.
  • Portability — request your data in a readable format (JSON or CSV).
  • Unsubscribe — every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link; you can also reply and ask.
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, for any purpose.

We respond to requests within 30 days. Email contact@toolsfordivers.com.

For residents of the European Union and UK (GDPR)

You have all of the rights above, plus the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We process only the minimal data described here, and we are not required to appoint a Data Protection Officer given the volume and nature of that data.

For residents of California (CCPA / CPRA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your rights.

CAN-SPAM (United States)

Every email we send includes our postal address and a working unsubscribe link, as required by the CAN-SPAM Act.

Storage and security

Your data is stored on infrastructure under our direct control. The database is SQLite — a simple, portable format we manage ourselves; we do not use shared or multi-tenant database services. Communication between your browser and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS, and administrative access is protected by authentication.

Governing law

This policy and our data practices are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware and the United States, without prejudice to any mandatory data-protection rights you have under the law of your own country of residence.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes that affect how we use your data, we will notify newsletter subscribers by email.
